DRESS YOUR BODY TYPE

HOW TO DRESS YOUR BODY TYPE

here is a breakdown of 6 popular body types with recommendations of styles that best flatter those body types.

these posts are a guide and while informative are meant for fun. remember when you wear clothing that fits your body AND your genuine style – you’ll look and FEEL your best!

self love and confidence are topics that are important to me –  remember you are a beauty and to rock what you’ve got girl! you are amazing as you are!

PEAR
* hips are larger than your bust and you have a defined waist
goal – define upper body / waist & chest

1 – a colorful top (front tucked into high waist denim) is a great trick to draw the eye up and add more attention to your upper body. bootcut or straight jeans in a dark wash go with any look and the darker colors slim out any areas you don’t want to focus on

2 – a dress in a printed flowy fabric will skim the body and with a cinched in waist right under the bust you’re creating an hourglass effect. I love the v neck or wrap dress style for Pear shapes

3 – horizontal stripes can be intimidating but not for a Pear – you can rock stripes in a top with dark jeans – you’ll be so chic and balance out your proportions

INVERTED TRIANGLE
* shoulders or bust are wider than your waist and hips
goal – add volume to lower half to balance upper body

1 – a blouse in a darker color/ print in a flowy fabric helps bring softness to your shoulders and bust. denim in a flare or bootcut fit help to bring balance to your awesome legs

2 – wide leg pants in a crop length are hard to pull off, but not for an Inverted Triangle. you have the body built for such amazing pants! pair them with a simple top in a neutral – define your waist with a cute belt

3 – soft fabrics such as a simple sweater tucked slightly into a pleated, full skirt will bring more volume to your lower half, which balances your proportions

DIAMOND
* waist is larger than the bust and hips
goal – show off neckline and legs to elongate the body

1 – a colorful sweater in a soft fabric allows you to tuck into jeans, the v neck allows you to show off your amazing upper body. dark jeans in a straight fit will flatter and look stylish

2 – v necklines or deep scoop necklines are going to be your best friend, wear them in dresses and in tops. the flowy skirt part of this dress will drape nicely over your waist and show off your awesome legs

3 – a top with amazing details such as cute sleeves paired with straight or bootcut jeans will elongate the legs and accent your Diamond shape

RECTANGLE
* bust and hips are similar sizes, waist is slightly smaller than bust & hips
goal – add definition to chest & waist

1 – a top with flirty sleeves and a peplum waist give you more volume and the illusion of curves. skinny denim will also hug your frame and give your hips more attention

2 – a cropped wrap top with a v neck will accent your upper body, focusing on your curves and narrow waist. styled with a skirt with volume – the ruffles help create more curves

3 – a snug sweater skirt clings to your body, accentuating your curves. a fun tee tucked in keeps the look casual

APPLE
* large bust, narrow hips and full midsection
goal – define upper body & chest, elongate body

1 – a darker colored top paired with black straight denim keeps the look sleek and gives the illusion of long legs

2 – a wrap dress with a v neckline brings attention to your awesome upper body – while the center of the dress pulls in to create an hourglass silhouette

3 – a top with pattern or neckline details will keep the eye up and focus on your face. a great pair of dark wash denim in a bootcut or flare will balance out your waist and upper body

HOURGLASS* bust & hips are similar sizes, you have a defined waist
goal – enhance natural curves

1 – a flowy top with a v neck brings attention to your bust line while the skinny denim accentuates your hips

2 – a sheath dress is a perfect fit on an Hourglass, it skims across your curves and can be belted or left undone

3 – snug sweaters and skirts bring attention to your curves and small waist, accent with v necklines or belted details
